Memorial to the Missing on the Somme in France.
"Corporal 43028, 1st Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. He was Killed in action Monday 4th September 1916. Born Hartford, Hunts, enlisted Huntingdon, resident Godmanchester. He was formerly 728, Huntingdonshire Cyclist Regiment. Commemorated on Thiepval Memorial,
Somme, France. Pier and Face 2 C" From a local paper dated 15/9/1916 Many Godmanchester Casualties. Corpl. Walter Clark, son of Mr. H Clark, Rectory Cottage, Godmanchester, (Bedfords) is reported killed in action, a letter to that effect having been received by his wife from the officer in charge. His name also appears in documents spelt Clarke.
